Plot Summary:[The Ascent of Mario, The Painter] (1996) - Beta - 13 min. \n\n The Italian painter Mario Schifano wishes to paint white a small house in a violent favela of Rio de Janeiro a work aimed at giving a social function to art. Ecstasy in the heart of darkness. A meditation on the nature of modern art and the different point of view between first and third worlds. The video shows the slow and mythical ascent of the favela stairway that leads to the top of the hill. Mario enters a gradually stranger and different from his expectations. His initial project acquires a new meaning.
